 动脉粥样硬化(Atherosclerosis)是动脉硬化中最重要的一个类型,基本损害是动脉内膜局部呈斑块状增厚,故又称动脉粥样硬化性斑块或简称斑块,动脉粥样硬化发病率很高,且累计全身动脉血管,主要累及主动脉、冠状动脉、脑动脉、肾动脉、大、中型肌弹力型动脉,最终导致它们的管腔狭窄以至完全堵塞,使这些重要器官缺血缺氧,功能障碍以至机体死亡。
